NEHEMIAH 8-9

Focus Verse: Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the sons of Israel assembled with fasting, in sackcloth and with dirt upon them. The descendants of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.
Nehemiah 9:1-2

It is impossible to spend this much time in the Lord’s presence and not be changed. And that change starts with confessing our sins. Can you imagine carving that kind of time out of your schedule for the Lord? Twenty four days! That’s a lot of time for God to sift through all of the nooks and crannies and dig out anything that’s standing in between you and Him.

I don’t think you have to give up twenty four days though. Don’t get me wrong, that’s great if you can. Not very many people have that kind of vacation time though. The key here isn’t the amount of time, it’s the heart that you have going into that time.

We need to stop going into our time with God with our list of things we need to discuss and start going into our time with God with an open agenda. We need to start by praying, “God, what do you need from me? What do you want to change in me?”

That’s the kind of prayer that leads to repentance. That’s the kind of prayer that leads to major change in us. That’s the kind of prayer that God will use to change the world through us.
