2 KINGS 12-14

Focus Verse: But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion on them and turned to them because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them or cast them from His presence until now.
2 Kings 13:23

Praise God for this verse! Praise God that this is the theme of the entire Bible! God is gracious to us! He has compassion on us! He turns to us! And why does God continue to go out of His way to save us? Because of the covenant He made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob! The covenant that He Himself upheld.

Make this verse personal. Stop looking at the Israelites as these primitive Neanderthals who needed all of this help and forgiveness from God, when we are so much more sophisticated and know better now…so we can get by just fine on our own. Wash the occasional sin off once a week at church and then we’re good. NO!

I don’t care how sophisticated and advanced we think we are as a civilization. It doesn’t matter how modern or progressive we get. We all need a Savior. Advancement in our society, in our culture, in science, does not remove sin; they are just different sins we deal with now. Through it all though, this promise remains the same: the Lord will move heaven and earth to keep from casting us from His presence.

In fact, He did move heaven and earth. Jesus Christ came from heaven to earth, was crucified, descended into hell to take your and my place, rose on the third day and then ascended back to heaven where He sits at the right hand of His Father. God made a fail proof way to reconcile perfect justice and perfect mercy. He made the only way, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Praise be to God!
