JUDGES 8-9

Focus Verse: Then the Israelites said to Gideon, “Be our ruler! You and your son and your grandson will be our rulers, for you have rescued us from Midian.” But Gideon replied, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son. The Lord will rule over you!
Judges 8:22-23

This is a Gospel attitude. Gideon turns down becoming the leader of the people, turns down their praise, turns down their respect, turns down their honor, and points it all to God. This goes beyond Gideon not wanting to be their ruler and take on more responsibility. He even turns this opportunity down for his son! What father would do that? Give up a life of ease with the people around you for your son; he would never have to work a day in his life!

But Gideon clearly isn’t concerned with any of that. He is the perfect example of what all leaders should be. As a Christ follower, we all need to follow this example. Take all attention directed towards us, and turn it to Christ. We will find that as we direct other people’s attention to Christ, our attention will stay there a whole lot better as well.

Everything needs to points to Jesus. Does your life?
