Focus Verse: “So the men of Israel took some of their provisions, and did not ask for the counsel of the Lord.”
Joshua 9:14

It’s the beginning of every single one of our undoings. The scary thing is, we have gotten so used to living without the counsel of the Lord that we now find it ridiculous to include Him in all of our decisions.

In this particular lesson, the Israelites are deceived by the Gibeonites and make a treaty with them to let them live in the Promised Land with them…something the Lord specifically told them not to do. But that’s what we miss out on when we don’t include the Lord in our decisions, His guidance. If we include Him in our business deals, He will make sure that no one is trying to pull one over on us. And if they do pull one over on us, we can take peace in the fact that we were acting in the will of God and it will all work out.

So, again, I want to propose something absurd (as I have been called in the past for holding this belief): what if you asked the counsel of the Lord in every decision you make today? Even down to the smallest detail, let Him guide you. Is it going to be easy? I haven’t found it to be…in fact, I screw it up quite often. I’m convinced though that if we do this, we will be able to walk in the Spirit and keep His commands perfectly.

Doesn’t that sound good?
