Focus Verse: “Whenever the cloud lifted from above the Tent, the Israelites set out; whenever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped. At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at His command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they remained in camp.”

Numbers 9:17-18

The Lord led the Israelites by His pillar of cloud and fire. I have had many discussions with people about how we wish God would lead us like this today. How easy it would be to follow His will if we had an actual cloud leading the way. And every day we miss the fact that He DOES!

Granted, He doesn’t use the pillar of cloud and fire technique anymore, but He has given us His Spirit to lead us. The Holy Spirit speaks directly to us and tells us exactly where to go. That is so much better, so much more personal, than a cloud!

We struggle with this though. We struggle hearing the Holy Spirit. We think it’s crazy to hear God’s voice. If you’re struggling to hear His voice today, here’s a good place to start: be obedient. I know it sounds completely backwards, but just obey. If you feel prompted to go talk to someone, obey. If you feel like you need to sponsor a child from World Vision, obey. If you need to have a tough conversation with a friend or family member, if you need to forgive a past hurt that you can’t let go of…OBEY.

The more obedient we are, the easier and easier it becomes to hear God. The majority of us are so frustrated at God for not leading us like He did with the Israelites, but when we get down to it, He IS leading us, we just don’t want to take the first step.

Listen to the Holy Spirit and DO what He says. It’s as easy as following a cloud…if not easier!
