Focus Verse: Whenever Moses went into the Tabernacle to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement—that rests on the Ark of the Covenant. The Lord spoke to him from there.

Numbers 7:89

The Lord still speaks to us today from the place of atonement. Also called the Mercy Seat, this was the place on the altar that the blood of the sacrifices was sprinkled in the presence of the Lord. This was done to cover the sins of the guilty party and cancel their debt.

Interesting that Paul uses the greek word for Mercy Seat, hilasterion (bolded), in Romans 3:23-25 where he says,

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith.

And today, that is still where God speaks to us. Through Jesus Christ, who poured out HIS blood, once and for all, on the place of atonement. Through HIS sacrifice. Through HIS mercy. Through HIS forgiveness. Through HIS love.

God speaks. Are you listening today?
