EXODUS 22-24
Focus Verse: “Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, ‘We will do everything the Lord has said; we will obey.’
Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, ‘This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.’”
Exodus 24:7-8
Oh how I wish this statement were true. Unfortunately, it took only about a month and a half (that we know of) before the Israelites reneged on their end of the bargain with God.
That’s why that verse 8 is so important. BEFORE they failed to live up to their end of the bargain, blood was shed on their behalf. I think that will preach on it’s own right there…but I’ll connect the dots anyway.
Before the foundation of the world was laid, you were bought with a price. God knew every misstep you would take, and still thought you were worth it. God knew when he entered into this covenant that we would be unable to hold up our end (see Genesis 15). The plan had already been established; the Son of God would pay the debt that we owed.
Now we have the power to live up to our end of the agreement. Through Christ. In Christ. Because of Christ.
What a Savior!
